Conquering the Fears of Virtual Training: Hands-On Workshop
About This Event
Have you ever facilitated a virtual training event? Far different than facilitating a face to face event, isn’t it? Do you know how to avoid the common pitfalls? Are you concerned your audience won't participate? If so, then this 3.5-hour workshop is for YOU! It is focused on your own personal development learning skills to move from a traditional face to face facilitator into the world of VILT (Virtual Instructor Led Training).
In this hands-on workshop you will learn from colleagues who are facing many of the same concerns as you while sharing best practices. You will leave this wonderful learning experience by redesigning your training content, knowing how to add interactivity and setting the stage for success while having opportunity to practice online.
Throughout the workshop you will be creating your own action plan which you can use immediately after the session!
You will learn:

How to overcome challenges, obstacles and issues to successfully facilitate virtual training

Set the stage for a successful virtual training session (ground rules, etc.) ensuring instant rapport

Use interactive tools such as polling, webcam, whiteboard, chat, chime-in, etc., which are available in most web-based platforms.

Practice, practice, practice and receive feedback from coach and peers

Build interaction, engagement and assessments into your training plan
The process:
Our virtual facilitator will be modeling effective VILT techniques and methods. Participants will be divided into sub groups for several activities throughout the session. Each group will have a coach who will be helping the group both technically and with feedback.
Participants can choose to participate either face to face or online. Either way, attendees will be in the same room logged into the virtual platform so you will have the opportunity to experience the learning in two different ways, virtually and classroom.
Throughout the workshop participants will break into small groups to apply what they just learned. Debriefing combined with peer and coach feedback will make this a rich learning experience not to be missed!

An existing presentation/workshop that you would like to convert to virtual training DURING this workshop. NOTE: Bring both hard copy and a USB drive with the presentation on it.

About the Presenter
Margie Meacham first became interested in helping people learn when she was a little girl struggling with first grade. While she didn’t discover it until much later, Margie is dyslexic and was finding it hard to keep up with her classmates. Eventually she figured out her mind worked and graduated high school as her class valedictorian and summa cum laude from her Bachelor and Master’s level programs. She pioneered virtual training in the 80s, using it to train customers and sales people on high-tech telecommunications equipment. Today, she teaches instructional designers, trainers, speakers and leaders how to make the most of their virtual training platforms and deliver training that is compelling, memory and immediately useful. The author of Brain Matters: How to help anyone learn anything using neuroscience believes that if you understand how the brain works you can become a better teacher, trainer, leader, spouse or parent and have more fun doing it. Margie is president of Learningtogo and writes a popular blog on the neuroscience of learning. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and runs her own online conference called Brain Matters.
