About This Event

Are you a skilled educator wondering how to leverage your interests and skills in a new way outside of the classroom? We are a community of learning and development professionals and would love to be a resource for you. Collectively, we represent a wide range of expertise including instructional design, training & facilitation, elearning, talent development ... the list goes on!

Please join us for our ATD Regional Virtual Event workshop on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 pm.  You will hear career transition stories from four talented learning and development professionals sharing their stories on how they transitioned from being a teacher to Learning & Development careers.

In addition to the panel discussion, we will have breakout rooms where attendees can network with ATD members to learn more about their careers in Learning & Development.



About Our Presenters


Sarah Barron is a vice president within Talent Development at Goldman Sachs. She is global head of the orientation team, leading the design and delivery of promote and university new hire orientations. In addition, Sarah serves as regional head of Talent Development for Salt Lake City, and advisor to several businesses on their customized learning needs.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs in 2014, she worked as an English as a Second Language high school teacher in NYC and completed the New York City Teaching Fellows program. Her work in education began as a Fulbright teaching fellow in Germany, after which she served as program manager for the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals, a US-German scholarship program. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Arts in German from Wellesley College and a Master’s in Education from Hunter College.

Kierstin Leddon is passionate Learning and Development professional and former educator who believes in creating learning experiences that are more than just delivering content- they must be relevant, exciting, and allow learners to directly apply new knowledge and skills needed to do their job effectively.

Kierstin started her career in the learning space with six years of experience as an educator. She taught over 300 students in grades K-4 and truly enjoyed building relationships and making learning exciting for her students. During this time, she was blessed to expand her global perspective by studying abroad in New Zealand and Prague to complete her teaching practicum and psychology minor.

Her passions for learning and travel have lead her to pursue a new career in the L&D space where she recently landed her new role as a Sr. Instructional Designer in the aviation industry. In her role, she partners with business owners, managers across various lines of business, international contact center teams, and internal team members to create quality training experiences for Guest Care Agents to prepare them to give Guests top-notch customer service. She’s excited to see her career soar to new heights and wants to help other transitioning educators see the value they bring on their journey to corporate L&D.

    

Garrett Lucien is the Vice President of Programs and Training at Coro New York Leadership Center and an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Public Service at NYU Wagner. Garrett joined the Coro team in 2013 and since then, he has been the lead Leadership Facilitator for all adult programs. Garrett brings a wealth of experience in facilitating and has over sixteen years of experience in the fields of Leadership and Community / Economic Development. His experience includes the design and delivery of leadership programs and fellowships for youth, college students, middle-managers, and executives on topics including Adaptive Leadership, Personal Ecology, DEI, Effective Communication, and Conflict Resolution. Garrett is a Board Member of Times Square Alliance and a member of their DEI Committee.

Before coming to Coro, Garrett worked with South Bronx Overall Economic Development (SoBRO) for eight years, most recently as the Senior Director of Economic Development and Financial Services. While working at SoBRO, he specialized in assisting entrepreneurs to establish new businesses throughout the Bronx.

Garrett holds a B.A. from SUNY New Paltz and an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Business in New York. Garrett is a second-generation New Yorker who is passionate about helping people to develop skills to create positive change within themselves and their communities.

Staci Taustine is a passionate facilitator, thought partner, and coach with more than 10 years of experience training educators, policymakers, and organizational leaders across the public and private sectors. As the CEO/Founder of Stubborn Heart Consulting, Staci brings a people-first approach to workplaces through customized programming, experiential workshops, and coaching. She leverages leadership development tools, dialogue, and little experiments to help teams work more productively, collaboratively, and sustainably across lines of difference.

Staci has helped the New York City Department of Education scale inter-generational strategies for inclusive decision-making and early-stage tech start-ups create impactful in-house L&D strategies. She has trained 10,000+ people in core leadership competencies and coached 2,000+ people to and through their top career moves at companies like Rivian, IPSY, Chief, and Meta.

Staci continues to teach Principles of Supervision and Management at LaGuardia Community College in partnership with NYC’s Small Business Services and Workforce1 where graduates go on to sustain transformative organizational cultures in the industrial space.

Staci is committed to amplifying spaces where the stakeholders impacted most, are at the table any time decisions are being made.

    


About Our Moderator

  

Maria Rivera has over 15 years of Management, Sales and Technology Training, Project Management, Web Development, Video Production, and Training & Development experience in Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, and professional service organizations. She is currently the Director of Continuing Education at Berkeley College. She led strategic initiatives at NYU The School of Professional Studies as the Associate Director for the Management and Systems Graduate Degree Program & the Management & Technology Continuing Education Programs.

Maria has produced a variety of blended digital media training solutions for various organizations/industries and has spoken at conferences including AT&T's HACEMOS Leadership conference, HISPA.org Youth Conferences, Trenton Computer Festivals, mLearning conference, the 2019 ACE Women's Network Women of Color Conference at Vaughn College. She recently spoke about The Reality of Extended Reality at the 2021 International Institute for Learning - Innovation and Leadership conference.

In addition, Maria was a speaker at the ATD Suncoast Event in March 2021: Women Making a Difference in Talent Development. She co-authored the paper Using Coding Competitions to Develop STEM Skills in Graduate Education with Andrés Fortino, PhD. This paper came in second place for the Best Paper Award - 2021, which was announced at this year's IEEE conference.

Maria has also designed and taught an Immersive Media (VR/AR) course for NYUSPS – Tisch Institute of Global Sport.
