Gamifying the Learning Experience
This is Part 1 of our 3 Part Learning Technology Series. Start with this SIG on Gamification. The next two parts in the series will build on each other as a Chapter Event and end with a Professional Development Workshop.
About the Workshop
Training’ evolved into ‘Learning’ in the nineties and very soon after was partnered with technology enabled self-paced learning. This has morphed into the blended learning solutions we know today. However, fundamentally this remained a formal intervention and didactic in nature. Learning for the future will be characterized by attributes such as informal, social, collaborative, fun, immersive and competitive. Today everyone is fascinated with playing a computer based game for its “fun” and immersive. We are all aware of how the world of social and collaborative media brought about a revolution. Gamification has played a critical role as an engagement enabler in this revolution too. A parallel track has quietly evolved during the last few years around ‘Serious Games’ as an enabler for learning and talent development. A number of designs have surfaced to address learning gaps using online gaming techniques in a variety of areas.
During this session attendees will be able to: review some hot gaming architectures and related demos/examples - discuss the game development process - review challenges with multi-platform delivery and related tools and templates
